np: "processed beats" - kasabian

i finally got a chance last night to take a little longer listen to these guys thanks to the magic of the interweb, since i haven't been able to find out anything about a U.S. release date (not that i've searched all THAT hard mind you). i'd heard the name bandied about in the NME over the past couple of months, but never really followed up on the band until my girlfriend came back from Italy excited about a cut she had heard. soon after that i managed to hear "Club Foot" and found it pretty decent. and after a full listen to the album, i have to say that i found it quite enjoyable. so its not exactly anything new, this whole Britrock/electronica thing was pioneered by bands like Primal Scream years ago, but i found it a pretty solid debut. "L.S.F. (Lost Souls Forever)" was a particular standout for me, combining the almost raplike delivery over '60s garage sounding claps and organ. something about the energy of the track creeps inside me and makes me want to dance. i think a big part of the reason i like this so much is the fact that this sounds like what i was really hoping The Music's debut was going to sound like (i.e. a little more textured with the beats). the album tends to drag a little towards the end as the beats start to become a little flat and uninspiring, but on the whole its an energetic debut by a band working with a sound that i feel could use a little more exploring. then again i enjoyed the Razorlight album and the Babyshambles single, so maybe i just don't know my Britrock.
